Within a bright sphere
a complete world seems contained,
just for a moment.

This might be a soothsayer's
crystal ball, where trapped light writhes.

Intellectual
vision must be augmented
by the seer's blind eye.
The second part of this poem was written in 2009. In February of this year I used the title again, having forgotten that the first poem existed.

By chance I discovered the earlier poem today. I was amazed at how well the two pieces resonated, so now I have brought them together.

Now that is what I call serendipity at its finest. The two pieces have certainly found kin in one another; the first 'sets up' the second, and I love the parallels between the metaphor (at least, for me) of our planet and the description of a blind 'seer'. This bought many things to mind, such as ideas of creationism and a creator. How we are trapped, writhing (I love that verb) in the vision of a creator who is blind to what we want. What we need.

Or perhaps there is no creator at all (an idea I subscribe to) and we're simply trapped by our own vanity.

I went all philosophical there. I blame your poem for this.
